Wow, check us out - we have totally sucked it up on the "regular" posting thing recently. Cross my heart and hope to die (stick a needle in my eye), we're gonna get back on the train here.
Anyway, we, or... Kate, choose McGinnis Landing because we needed new jackets in a big way - it's getting freaking cold out! (This is what you get for living in Texas the past two years. Cold catches up with you REAL fast.) No lie, that's the reasoning. McGinnis was close to Kohl's*, and so - well there we were.
Our server was super sweet (she made me hot chocolate!) but a little slower than preferred (it took her about half an hour after dropping off our checks to come back and get our money). All things considered with her, I'd still give her a thumbs up.
The hot chocolate was just what I needed to get my blood back up to a human level, and the chicken sandwich was awesome! It came with some dill ranch on the side, which meshed really well with the pesto. I also opted out the regular french fries side for cottage cheese (ask Kate why she doesn't like cottage cheese), and that paired with the hot chocolate really brought back some warm fuzzy childhood memories. Thus, even if the meal hadn't tasted phenomenal, it was still great by association.

*for the record, we both found lovely new coats, thank you very much.
Kate: Tomato Basil Chicken Wrap
Yeah, its true, I chose this place because of it's proximity to Kohl's and the grocery store. But, hey, sometimes that's how the cookie crumbles! I knew Kristin had been there before, but I had yet to experience McGinnis Landing. Well, I can no longer say that.
Yes, the server was very nice, but a little slow. It wasn't very busy in there, so I had trouble reconciling that, but all in all, I was pleased. We even got to see this strange little girl licking the wall, and well pretty much anything else that was at tongue height. Yeah, pretty gross. But, what do you do?
The Tomato Basil Chicken Wrap sounded tasty and I was drawn in by the words "low fat" in the description. I was not disappointed. It was a light dish that was very satisfying. And, they have lots of side dish choices for sandwiches including mashed potatoes, baked potato, rice, veggies, fries. So, you don't feel like a loser when you opt of the French fries. I went with a baked potato, butter and sour cream on the side. And, let me tell you, the butter was wondrous. It was infused with chives and onions. YUM! Perfect compliment to the well baked tater.
And, NOTE, happy hour at McGinnis Landing begins at 3 pm and on Thursday extends until the place closes down. So, I was able to escape the restaurant with a bill under $15 enjoying a glass of wine and the yummy wrap with baked potato side. Definitely a good choice for the economically challenged that still enjoy a tasty meal!
(It is true, I do not eat cottage cheese. AND, I do not drink milk. Why? Well, as a child, I left a glass of milk by my bedside one night. Not understanding why the milk usually stays in the refrigerator, I picked it up a few days later and took a big swig. Needless to say, it was not in its best condition. I, of course, freaked out, and have not been able to drink milk or eat cottage cheese since. That was over 20 years ago. Strange, I know, but true!)

First, I'd like to thank you both for taking time to write this blog. I am also a self proclaimed foodie in the kazoo area.
I have been to McGinnis 3 or 4 times, the most recently being a couple of months ago. It had been a couple of years since I ate there and thought I would try it again. I have to say that I was extremely disappointed. I ordered the Artichoke and Crab Union. There weren't many pieces of the imitation crab meat, I counted two pieces of artichoke and if the sauce didn't come out of a can or bag I would be amazed! The dish was a total disgrace! If I ever go back, I guess I should try one of their sandwiches.
Anyway, thanks for letting me rant.
Thanks for your comment. I am sad that you did not have a good experience there. Sometimes it can vary so much from day to day, I know. We both enjoyed our experience with the sandwiches, so maybe that is what they do best.
Thanks for reading. Please keep checking back. We promise we will be more on top of it from here on out!
Wow that was quick! HI!
Welcome to the blog. I've noticed that Kate and I tend to be big on sandwiches/wraps, and McGinnis definitely met our standards in that area - if you go back I'd say you should try one.
The salad I had last time I was there was also pretty good, but only if you're a fruit + salad = goodness person (I am, Kate is not.)
Keep coming back! I'm going to try to get some interesting additions to the site added sometime this weekend!
I just stumbled upon your blog. Thanks so much for writing these reviews! I can't wait to check some of these places out. I love McGinnis. Their BLT ("Built Like a Truck") is awesome (and ginormous!). But, I've had trouble with the service several times, too. And they've also been times when it's not been busy. It's a mystery to me...
Hi Jen!
Yeah, it wasn't entirely busy when we were there either. Weird. Thanks for the comment - we hope you keep coming back to see where we go each week.
(also, I clicked on your name and stumbled across your blog. I love your collections of home made wonders! And I'm totally trying the face scrub you posted.)
