Have a recommendation? We'd LOVE to hear it!
Salutations Readers!

Kalamazoo has good food.
Great food, in fact. We have made it our mission to check out all the local eateries one at a time - and more for our own poor memories than any other reason, we'll be chronicling our adventures in food here. And some places float our boats way more than others, which is why we have developed the very scientific
five golden forks rating scale. Ok. It is not scientific at all. It is actually quite unscientific. But, it is something. And now, you can search all of our reviews by the forks rating. YAY!

But, wait! There's more!
Kalamazoo Foodies no longer just eat at restaurants then review them. There are recipes posted, some easy, some less easy, all delicious. There are, or will be, book reviews, the new
Foodie Movie Review-y which will focus on movies about food or ones that have a lot of beautiful food in them. There are other food musings, and hopefully soon contests and so much more. But, Foodie Friends, it is all about food. Because we love it!
And, we want to hear from you!

We want to hear your comments on our recipes and reviews. We want to know where you love to eat. And, we are looking for GUEST bloggers to broaden our horizons a bit. And, if you haven't found us on Facebook, you should do that too. Like our page for other fun Foodies stuff like photos, polls, and more.

SO KALAMAZOO PATRONS - where do YOU love to eat? Because we'd love to check it out and share our thoughts here. Give us a comment below, and quickly! Our tummies are grumbling in anticipation.

A Note from the Foodies about our typical fair:
So, you may notice as you read our blog that we often order the same thing wherever we go. OK, maybe not quite, but we do often order similar things. Kristin has her caprese salads and mushroom dishes. Kate has her baked goat cheese and things with tofu. Well, readers, we wanted to let you know that this is absolutely intentional. A) We love those things, so why not order what you love? And, B) It is a lot easier to compare apples to apples than it is to compare apples to comquats. So, we like to order similar things to have a good sense of how to compare them. Just wanted to let you in on that little secret. Bon appetit!

Sprout

Kristin: Shroomin', Vietnemese Spring Rolls, Pumpkin Custard
There was a five minute span where Kate and I were not sure which eatery from the list would be our pick for the week. And then we looked at their online menu. THERE IS A DISH NAMED SHROOMIN. Three different kinds of mushroom with rice and tofu. Dude. Decision Made.
Sprout is a wonderful spot that bases its menu off of what the chefs can get at the farmers market that week - so the menu is constantly updated with new and interesting things. I think the atmosphere is best described as a fusion of Frank Lloyd Wright (dish-ware, furniture), and... well I sadly couldn't put a name to the artist of the AWESOME paintings inside, but there were two fantastically huge portraits with a really interesting color palette (I LOVE when painters use blue to convey a realistic hair color's shine), and one painting of a bar scene that had a very Monet-like style to it. All in all sincerely wonderful eye candy for the dining experience.
Our server was a wonderful gal who had just started grad school (which left Kate and I to spend the meal reflecting back on our grad school shenanigans), and was a very helpful lady, especially when deciding our desert.
So the food. DELISH. All very light and fresh, and everything that I ate was different from anything I'd ever eaten, but still familiar enough to LOVE (I've never had tofu done that well.) The pumpkin custard was actually coconut custard, but it was served in a tiny pumpkin, and therefore adorable. All in all, I had a great time, I can't wait to go back again!

Kate: Pad Thai with Tofu, Vietnamese Spring Rolls, Pumpkin Custard
UH, YUM! This place was great! Kristin did a great job of the decor and atmosphere which I loved as well. And, let's take a second to talk about pricing. Nice. Great for any budget. I don't think there was an entree that was more than $13, and the wine list was also VERY reasonably priced. We enjoyed a nice organic Chardonnay that was a great compliment to our meal.
The spring rolls were good. A challenge to eat, but yummy. And super light. Every bite brought a new flavor including cilantro, basil, oregano and others. Delicious. Now, let's take a second to discuss Pad Thai. I love Pad Thai, especially with Tofu. So, while I considered many items on the menu which all sounded wonderful, I went with the Pad Thai and was not disappointed. The tofu was marinated in something amazing and was cooked to perfection. And, the rest of the dish was just perfect. I think I could eat this every day! If you are a Pad Thai fun, I recommend you try it here. Yum!
The Pumpkin Custard was not necessarily to my taste, I am not a big coconut fan, but the presentation was perfect and I will definitely try other desserts here.
A great, economical dining experience. GO THERE!!!

I love the site! I recently moved to Kalamazoo from Mobile, Alabama, where I ran a restaurant blog. Its nice to find other foodies to recommend places to eat, as I have yet to meet many people with my same passion. Keep up the good work and give me a yell if you ever need a third. I'm a connoisseur of all things Southern and deep fried.

So glad you've found us! Having just moved here from TX, I have to say that I haven't found much, if anything that really reminds me of that down home cookin' that the south is so known for.
What brought you up from Alabama?
