YAY! Another new post. I know, what is going on? I don't know the answer, but let's not question and just go with it.
So, yes, Paul and I visited B'Witched Deli in the Blockbuster plaza on Drake Road. We had been curious about this place for a while, and were running errands, so we thought 'what the heck'. As we walked in, we saw the certificates on the wall stating that they were Kalamazoo Gazette Reader's Choice winners in both 2008 and 2009 as the Best Sandwiches in Town and the Best Place to Eat Lunch. Well, surely, that has to mean something. And, it totally did.
We perused the menu, and there were a lot of tempting options. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Paul asked for a recommendation and the young guy was able to really articulately tell us about his favorites and why they were his favorites. I was quite impressed.
I was really intrigued with the White Russian. Rye bread with smoked turkey, sauteed onions, baby Swiss cheese, and coleslaw. Surely, this sandwich is not going to be good for me, but, we had spent a few hours cleaning our house and had worked up quite an appetite, so I thought I would go for it. And, I am glad I did.
It is hard to describe just how good this sandwich was. There was a lot of sharpness with it that was really well balanced by the creaminess of the coleslaw. I am not convinced that baby Swiss is the best way to go. I think maybe regular Swiss would make it even better. I felt like I tasted the baby Swiss A LOT in some bites, but overall, this sandwich was pretty incredible. Paul said that I, again, had a better menu pick than he did. Not that he didn't like his Tom's Turkey sandwich. In fact, he REALLY liked it. But, mine was a little more adventurous and tastier.
The potato chips deserve a special note here too. Wow! They are those thick, homemade chips that are just so perfectly fried and perfectly salted. I am aware that this was a total calorie fest, but every bite made it so worth it!
We will for sure be visiting B'Witched again, and if you like sandwiches (who doesn't?) then I recommend that you stop by too.
Value note... they are not the most inexpensive sandwiches you can find in Kzoo (A full runs on average $7.25, which includes a pickle and a side!)... they are also not the most expensive. For the same money you would spend at Panera on their You Pick Two deal, you could enjoy a locally owned and operated eatery with really fresh tasting ingredients, more ingenuity on the menu, and really awesome potato chips. For dinner, it was a perfect choice. Under $20 for us both to leave with full bellies!
five golden forks out of five.
