Have a recommendation? We'd LOVE to hear it!
Salutations Readers!

Kalamazoo has good food.
Great food, in fact. We have made it our mission to check out all the local eateries one at a time - and more for our own poor memories than any other reason, we'll be chronicling our adventures in food here. And some places float our boats way more than others, which is why we have developed the very scientific
five golden forks rating scale. Ok. It is not scientific at all. It is actually quite unscientific. But, it is something. And now, you can search all of our reviews by the forks rating. YAY!

But, wait! There's more!
Kalamazoo Foodies no longer just eat at restaurants then review them. There are recipes posted, some easy, some less easy, all delicious. There are, or will be, book reviews, the new
Foodie Movie Review-y which will focus on movies about food or ones that have a lot of beautiful food in them. There are other food musings, and hopefully soon contests and so much more. But, Foodie Friends, it is all about food. Because we love it!
And, we want to hear from you!

We want to hear your comments on our recipes and reviews. We want to know where you love to eat. And, we are looking for GUEST bloggers to broaden our horizons a bit. And, if you haven't found us on Facebook, you should do that too. Like our page for other fun Foodies stuff like photos, polls, and more.

SO KALAMAZOO PATRONS - where do YOU love to eat? Because we'd love to check it out and share our thoughts here. Give us a comment below, and quickly! Our tummies are grumbling in anticipation.

A Note from the Foodies about our typical fair:
So, you may notice as you read our blog that we often order the same thing wherever we go. OK, maybe not quite, but we do often order similar things. Kristin has her caprese salads and mushroom dishes. Kate has her baked goat cheese and things with tofu. Well, readers, we wanted to let you know that this is absolutely intentional. A) We love those things, so why not order what you love? And, B) It is a lot easier to compare apples to apples than it is to compare apples to comquats. So, we like to order similar things to have a good sense of how to compare them. Just wanted to let you in on that little secret. Bon appetit!

Food Dance

Kristin: Pumpkin French Toast & Chicken Apple Sausages with an Apple Cider Mimosa
YAY FOOD DANCE!
Nothing new to report quality-wise here folks. Kate's parents were in town this weekend, and we had to show them the best that K-zoo has to offer. To food dance for brunch it is!
One of the seasonal specials on the menu was listed with a fancier name than I put up there, but I don't remember the specifics. I DO remember, however, that it tasted like eating pumpkin pie for breakfast, in a good way. Woot. And what would go better with such a fall-themed breakfast than a mimosa with apple cider substituted in for the traditional orange juice? I certainly can't think of anything.
Thanks again to Kate's mum and dad for treating me to a scrumptious brunch!

Kate:The same thing as usual, the two farm fresh eggs with chicken apple sausage and the cheddar and herb scone. PLUS, the Apple Cider Mimosa
So, yeah, we needed to show off our fave. So, we took Randy and Karen to Food Dance. I was boring and ordered the same thing I do every Food Dance brunch. When I ask what scones they have and the answer is "cheddar and herb, blah-de-blah, and blah-de-blah", I have already made up my mind. I swear, one day, I will branch out at brunch, so now, BACK OFF! :)
So, yes, as usual, the food was delish. Loved it. What did mom and dad have? Dad had pancakes and actually tried the chicken apple sausage, which was unbelievable as he never eats chicken. Mom had one of the specials, a vegetable quiche. They both enjoyed their meals. But, let me say, the Apple Cider Mimosa was an amazing surprise. I was a little apprehensive, but when our server assured me it was wonderful, I took a chance. And, boy, am I ever glad I did. YUM!!!
Again, Food Dance wins the "where would I take someone from out of town award". They never disappoint!

Food Dance

Kristin: The New Step (Pancakes, Eggs, Sausages)
I'll keep this short. Food Dance. Go there. Order anything off the breakfast menu that come with the CHICKEN APPLE SAUSAGES. Just do it. They are soooooo good. And as much as I tried so very hard to order something just different so that I could actually have relevant commentary on our dining experience... I couldn't do it. Seriously people, chicken apple sausages. Like a foodie's crack.
We went to food dance yet again to show off the wonderful city of Kalamazoo's offerings for Kate's foodie friend, Brandelyn (did I spell that right Kate?). I think we showed her a good time.

Kate: Two farm fresh eggs with sausage, potatoes, and an herb and cheese scone (not to mention Mimosas)
Now, I should mention that Brandlyn (so close, Kristin) was my cuisine buddy in my former city. Once a week, we would dine together and de-stress from the week. Our experiences were not nearly as formal (funny, aren't I?) and there was no "list". In fact, other than a few times, we ate at the same 5-7 restaurants the whole time. Not that we weren't adventurous, its just that we found things that we REALLY liked (Oh, Vino Vino...how I miss you!). So, when I heard that she was coming to Kalamazoo for an afternoon, I knew I needed to WOW her with a culinary experience. Where else would you turn for that type of experience than Food Dance?
I knew that I needed to try to aforementioned chicken and apple sausages, so I sought a menu item that included a breakfast meat. And, when Brandlyn ordered and I heard "herb and cheese scone" I KNEW I needed to try one. That lead me to this dish. Nothing fancy, but amazing flavors. I just can't say enough how impressed I am with everything that I have had from this place. And, this was no exception.
The Mimosas deserve special mention. So, it was a Sunday afternoon. Right? Brandlyn was here, so, slightly special occasion. Naturally, that leads us to mimosas. They have three different flavors, regular orange, mango and pomegranate. I gave the mango a try, and it was yummy, but round two was a good, old fashioned mimosa, and it was delish! If you ever have an excuse to order one, DO IT!

Food Dance

Kristin: Eddie's Special
Food Dance does not disappoint. Awesome food for the second time in a row- and this time we danced it up brunch style. Half a waffle, scrambled egg, and two phenomenal chicken/apple sausages comprised an absolutely perfect portion size to get the day jump-started without feeling overstuffed and groggy.
Also, I would like to add that their tea selection alone would prompt me to frequent brunch at the F.D. (I had something with marigolds in it. Yum!)

Kate: Whole grain pancakes and eggs
I have to agree with Kristin, that Food Dance did it again! I have not had a bad experience there yet! And, it all tastes so fresh and yummy! I am a sucker for whole grain/multi grain pancakes, and these certainly did take the cake, so to speak. Very hearty. Delicious syrup that was special in some way and well complimented with a simple scrambled egg. YUM! The cakes were big, so I took about half of my plate home, and they warmed very well the next morning for a second day of pancake heaven!
Complimented the meal with a decaf latte. I usually go for some flavored syrup in there, but decided to wing in that morning, and was not disappointed. Delicious espresso. I will be visiting Food Dance again for brunch!!!

Food Dance

Kristin: Baked Portabello Mushroom and Food Dance Cheese Board
I heart mushrooms. Not like, the psychedelic kind, but the kind that you cook and it can almost double as meat. So there really wasn't a lot that food dance could do wrong when I ordered this, but they not only ended up doing it right... they did it RIIIIIIGHT. It probably also helped that the appetizer for the evening set the tone right with wonderful and sophisticated cheeses/ crackers.

Kate: Food Dance Cheese Board and Pecan Chicken Salad
Every Food Dance experience makes me want to come back for more. On this occasion, I had my friend, Brett, in from out-of-town and wanted to go somewhere a little fancy and delicious. This was a good choice. We enjoyed their AMAZING wine special for the evening, 1/2 price bottles. I thoroughly enjoyed the Heron Pinot Noir from Rhone France at a VERY decent price. The cheese board was a great way to kick off our experience. I can't even remember what cheeses were on it, but I could not stop. And, they have wonderful house-made crackers that make it even better.
My salad was nothing too fancy, but it all come together for a plate of deliciousness. I can't recall what dressing I had, I think the, possibly, the house vinaigrette. But, it was a good portion size, light, yummy.
I believe we also enjoyed a vanilla bean creme brulee at our table that evening. All three of us that were dining are creme brulee junkies, so we shared a serving. It was, as expected, to die for!
Oh, Food Dance, how I love you so!
