Have a recommendation? We'd LOVE to hear it!
Salutations Readers!

Kalamazoo has good food.
Great food, in fact. We have made it our mission to check out all the local eateries one at a time - and more for our own poor memories than any other reason, we'll be chronicling our adventures in food here. And some places float our boats way more than others, which is why we have developed the very scientific
five golden forks rating scale. Ok. It is not scientific at all. It is actually quite unscientific. But, it is something. And now, you can search all of our reviews by the forks rating. YAY!

But, wait! There's more!
Kalamazoo Foodies no longer just eat at restaurants then review them. There are recipes posted, some easy, some less easy, all delicious. There are, or will be, book reviews, the new
Foodie Movie Review-y which will focus on movies about food or ones that have a lot of beautiful food in them. There are other food musings, and hopefully soon contests and so much more. But, Foodie Friends, it is all about food. Because we love it!
And, we want to hear from you!

We want to hear your comments on our recipes and reviews. We want to know where you love to eat. And, we are looking for GUEST bloggers to broaden our horizons a bit. And, if you haven't found us on Facebook, you should do that too. Like our page for other fun Foodies stuff like photos, polls, and more.

SO KALAMAZOO PATRONS - where do YOU love to eat? Because we'd love to check it out and share our thoughts here. Give us a comment below, and quickly! Our tummies are grumbling in anticipation.

A Note from the Foodies about our typical fair:
So, you may notice as you read our blog that we often order the same thing wherever we go. OK, maybe not quite, but we do often order similar things. Kristin has her caprese salads and mushroom dishes. Kate has her baked goat cheese and things with tofu. Well, readers, we wanted to let you know that this is absolutely intentional. A) We love those things, so why not order what you love? And, B) It is a lot easier to compare apples to apples than it is to compare apples to comquats. So, we like to order similar things to have a good sense of how to compare them. Just wanted to let you in on that little secret. Bon appetit!

Full City Cafe

Kate: Pan fried lake perch with homemade potato chips and coleslaw. Oh, and a delectable creme brulee cheesecake dessert.
So, this was not our first visit to Full City Cafe. Paul and I had gone a few weeks prior, when our refrigerator died, and we absolutely delighted. Not only was the service pretty darn good and the food very tasty, but the owner made us fresh guacamole at our table, we got free dessert (every Monday night) and they have a rewards card! Wow! We knew we needed to take Kristin to check it out.
So, here we are for Perch Week. Paul is a big fan of perch, so we thought we would check it out. I was reluctant to order the fried perch, as I try to stay away from fried things, generally, but I went with it any. The server told us that it would not be greasy and she was right. It was coated with a cornmeal mixture and cooked just right. A squirt of lemon made this a very delicious seafood experience. I am not totally crazy for seafood, so I was very pleased with how this tasted.
Now, the icing on the cake was both the amazing homemade potato chips and the coleslaw. The chips were perfectly fried and perfectly salted. Very cripsy. Not too greasy. Yum! And, the coleslaw was an oil based, rather than mayonnaise, based slaw, which I prefer. It was really tangy in a very good way. I found myself filling up on the slaw and chips and not having enough room for the rest of my fish.
But, of course, there was room for dessert. I wanted to take it to-go, but Paul and Kristin insisted we eat there. And, I am glad we did, their presentation was very nice. Now, we, of course, all had to taste each other's desserts. I think Kristin got a key lime pie-type thing, and Paul had a pecan and caramel brownie, which were both good. But, I think I won this time around. Wow! This was really great. I wanted to eat the whole thing, despite the fact that I was already stuffed, it was so good. I don't normally like creme brulee flavored things, since I like creme brulee so much, but this was the perfect flavor! Really good!
If you haven't checked out Full City yet, you need to. Monday is free dessert night. They do fun specials and cool themes all the time. And, you can sign up for their rewards program. A great combination.
(Note: Both of our visits have been to the one in Portage because they are open later...)

four golden forks out of five.

Kate: Pan fried lake perch with homemade potato chips and coleslaw. And of course, a clice of Key Lime Pie.
The first time Kate and Paul visited this place, they came back SO eager to make sure I got there soon - add this to my Wisconsin heritage (hello, Friday night fish frys! Am I the only one here?) And the Perch week seemed a perfect time to hit Full City up. I was certainly not disappointed - the perch was great, not greasy, just crispy. The chips were a home-made wonder. And the cole-slaw wasn't just a drippy mess (you know you've seen THAT cole slaw somewhere. Perhaps at a family reunion. It's never a pretty picture. This was not the case with the Fully City C.S. I digress.)
But I think the coolest part for me was the friendliness of everyone there. The owner came out and recognized Kate and Paul from their last visit, chatted us up a bit. That really impressed me that he took so much time out for his customers.
I'll definately go back (I'm signed up for the reward point program, how could I NOT?) and I encourage you to try it too!

It appears you are on a mission to eat your way through the Zoo. I have always had dream of eating across France some day.

Thanks again and good luck with your mission!
